better DIY Temporary Tattoos

To continue this post, here is another tutorial for DIY Temporary Tattoos.

If you are looking for bridal inspirations, you can check out The Something Turquoise wedding blog. I have only known this for less than a week, but I got hooked too quick -- I don't know but I found something that convinced me it's worth stalking. Well, Jen (the writer behind the blog) caught my attention mainly because... Anyone who is a real crafter gets a piece of my heart. Just look at her amazing craft space!

About Something Turquoise: I felt the need to include these snippets from their 'About' page. It was written with sincerity; it makes reading more like really meeting Jen in person. It was light to read and very welcoming. Such a genuine person; she must be a real sweetheart.

"My name is Jen… and like a lot of other girls, I’m obsessed with weddings and always have been. Working within the wedding industry for over 10 years as a mobile hair dresser and avidly following wedding blogs – I felt a deep need to create my very own. This blog is my pride and joy, my wildest dreams come to life and my favorite place to be – I am so very THANKFUL that you are here and I truly hope you enjoy it."

"We all know the wedding rhyme, ” Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”. Well my ‘something blue’ wasn’t blue at all… it was ‘something turquoise’… which was the ultimate inspiration for the name of my blog."

"Wedding magazines are expensive and tend to offer little inspiration compared to the possibilites of a daily published blog. Real people, real events, real budgets, real advice, equal lots to share… and that’s why wedding blogging has become what it is today. I hope to make a significant contribution to this new and exciting community."

So basically... Not just real weddings, and inpiration posts, but also...

Something Turquoise shares unique and usable bridal tips and tutorials. This one, for example.

diy temporary tattoos

This is quite a surprise [read: indecisiveness], but I had already [partially] decided on four things about Elle's first birthday party. One, the theme. Two, birthday cakes. Three, the invitation. And four, woodland masks. It must have something to do with my love for over-planning. Hopefully, I stick to these ideas. But here's another partially decided thing for the party.

DIY TEMPORARY TATTOOS.

Background #1: here in the Philippines, it's [sort of] required to have a face painting booth for birthday parties, since when you get an entertainment, such as clowns and magicians, a face painter is usually included in the party package. That's actually what we had for my [first kid] son's first birthday party a year ago. And to tell you the truth, I wasn't happy about it. I wasn't sad nor disappointed -- I kind of ignored the fact that we had face painting for guests that day. Although, a few kids [by that, I mean 3 to 5] tried; sadly, it wasn't much of a hit for adult guests. I don't blame them. I would brush that idea, too [I would not want a sparkling butterfly on my face]. Simply put, I feel like our guests were all too shy to try out something as shiny as that. Plus, the fact that they'd have to sit down, their face close to the painter's face, and wait for a whole 5 minutes, someone as awkward-penguin as myself would really just throw that idea away.

Background #2: I've always wanted to have tattoos [emphasis on being plural]. An inspiring quote, or birds, or a dream catcher. But I never had the courage to actually do it [too painful for my liking].

This would totally solve the problem! I admit I'm a stalker of Green Wedding Shoes. And while scrolling through their world of surreal reality, I happen to chance upon Arlene & Jake's wedding. I am totally in love with casual weddings, and their backyard picnic idea hits deep my heart.

To delight their guests during ceremony + reception, they provided them with DIY temporary tattoos. *lightbulb* I fell in love with the idea. I think it's hip. It's fresh. It's creative. It's easy. It's fun. It's a really unique activity to keep everyone busy -- imagine pictures of guests doing these on their arms, then taking pictures, and stuff like that. I also think it can be an excuse to using deer art.

Long story short, I think cool dudes are gonna love this.
I just really hope our guests would fall for this, because I would totally empty the bowl, if I were them.

Here's to wishing!

An online invitation: Jess and Russ

I've been wanting to share this to you guys, but probing and stuff got in the way. Luckily, I'm really sick today [with vomiting, throbbing headache, and stuff], so my thinking kind of became normal [because you know, my normal isn't really normal]. So, I decided to do this, like right now.

Jess and Russ are probably the awesome-st couple I ever heard of [thanks to alicenell, a blog that mainly focuses on illustrations].

Jessica Hische [I've done my research and turns out she] is not just an illustrator [she's amazing by the way], but is also a rad letterer [being a wee bit in love with calligraphy, I was really impressed]. She came up with the Daily Drop Cap, where she shares initial caps on a daily basis (or regularly, at least). What's exciting about that, anyway? Well, one, they are letters with a fun twist! And two, I think they are for free, i.e. everyone's welcome to use them to prettify their blogs and stuff. BUT if you want to know more about her, then you are one lucky dude, because apparently, she [or they -- with her husband] is an avid fan of over-sharing. Their story [career or otherwise] is almost all over the net. Go Google, and you will find more cool things about Jessica, but this, I think, is enough evidence.

If that doesn't knock you out, well, Russ Maschmeyer is her husband. And if you have to know... One, he used to be in a band, The XYZ Affair, and they toured around US. Two, he is currently an interaction and product designer at The Facebook. Yep -- they are a super creative couple. So what do you expect when they got married? Well, that's actually what I want to share.

Jessica and Russ' online invitation was brainstormed and worked by a team of artists, who are their good friends, and who are as awesome as them. It featured a page in which their story was written, much like a timeline. The colors black and gold were motif, while customized golden lettering of their names with swooshes and crosses made up for the theme. My favorite, I have to say, were the photos, which were moving btw as you scroll down [that I found magical, like 'wow', no apparent reason].

A Note From Jessica:

"I can’t say I was a normal girl, fantasizing about my wedding day from the time I could walk, but when Russ proposed I was ecstatic. A few days later the congratulations started pouring in from friends and stranger-friends along with one enthusiastic and intimidating statement: “Your wedding invites are going to be so awesome!” Russ and I are both designers, so the pressure was enormous to make something crazy. After a lot of scheming we realized one thing: that over the years we’ve met and befriended some truly incredible and talented people, all of whom we had hoped to collaborate with someday. The invite became the perfect opportunity to work together with people we care about, respect, admire, and love. We’re so happy and thankful for everyone involved, many of whom have played integral roles in the story of how we came to be."

In a gist, I love the concept, the illustrations [DEFINITELY], and the moving photos; the falling X's and O's, the running men [or suitors], the one with the bike [or moving in], the falling snow and that little cozy French restaurant. Especially when I scrolled down the keyboard photo, and the letters aligned and formed "Then the internet brought them together". Best photo goes to that, in which everyone was thinking "Work.. work.. work", and I scrolled, and everything blurred, except for one guy [Russ] who was daydreaming "Jessica" *stars stars magic*.

Their invitation was really different. I hated online invitations, until this. It was simple, but oozing with creativity. Also, those who were lucky to be invited got to RSVP online! Their guests were given a password; nothing like a secret world or club to make something look so.. just extremely cool.

Anyway, here are sneak peeks, which were my favorite illustrations. Kudos to artists!

Now that must've gotten you thrilled to see their wedding!
But that's another post.
